Competitor Research
Use Vera to build a complete picture of your competitive landscape — understand how competitors position themselves, who they serve, and where the gaps are.
Map Your Competitive Landscape
Step 1: Enrich Your Competitors
Start by enriching every competitor you know about:
- Go to Enrich Company on the dashboard
- Enter each competitor's domain one by one, or upload a CSV with all of them
Company,Domain
Competitor A,competitor-a.com
Competitor B,competitor-b.com
Competitor C,competitor-c.com
Step 2: Compare Key Fields
Once enriched, open each company's detail page and compare:
| Field | What It Tells You |
|---|---|
| Industry | How they classify themselves |
| Value Proposition | Their core pitch — what makes them different |
| Target Customers | Who they sell to (overlap with your ICP?) |
| Services Offered | Product breadth — where they compete and where they don't |
| Revenue Model | SaaS, marketplace, consulting — affects their strategy |
| Employee Count | Size and growth stage |
| Funding Status | Resources they have to compete |
| Business Stage | Startup, growth, scaleup, enterprise, public |
| Challenges | Problems they face that you might not |
Step 3: Find the Gaps
Look for patterns across your competitors:
- Underserved segments — Industries or customer types none of your competitors target
- Missing services — Capabilities you offer that competitors don't list
- Positioning gaps — Value propositions no one is claiming
- Size mismatches — Competitors too large (enterprise) or too small (startup) for your target market
Discover Competitors You Didn't Know About
Vera's enrichment includes a competitors field generated by AI analysis. For every company you enrich, check this field — it often surfaces companies you weren't tracking.
How to use it:
- Enrich your own company and your top 5 known competitors
- Check the
competitorsfield on each — note any names you don't recognize - Enrich those newly discovered companies
- Repeat until you've mapped the full landscape
Track Changes Over Time
Re-enrich competitors periodically to catch strategic shifts:
- Quarterly: Re-enrich your top competitors to see if their positioning, services, or target customers have changed
- When you hear news: Funding round, acquisition, pivot — re-enrich to see updated data
- Before planning cycles: Fresh competitive data before product or go-to-market planning
Re-enriching a cached domain is free within your plan's data retention period.
Export for Presentations
After enriching your competitors:
- Go to Companies page
- Filter or search for your competitor set
- Select all → Export Selected → download CSV
Use the exported data to build competitive matrices, battle cards, or board presentations.
B2B Match for Competitive Positioning
If you've set up your company profile, Vera's B2B Match analysis on competitor companies gives you unique insight:
- Synergy Areas — Reveals where your capabilities overlap (direct competition) vs. complement (potential partnership)
- Sales Angles — Shows how you could position against this competitor when selling to their customers
- Pain Points Addressed — Highlights weaknesses you can exploit in competitive deals
A high match score with a competitor means significant overlap — use the detailed analysis to sharpen your competitive positioning.
